My Best Friend

This is my best friend Odin. He's 12 years old, but he still gets around OK. He's the best watchdog I've ever had, and he'll still mess someone up if they're not introduced properly. He's a Collie/Husky/Shepherd/Rottweiler mix. He had a bout with mast-cell tumors( aform of cancer) a while back. He's been on chemo meds, and is still rocking along. I've had some real good dogs in my time, but Odin is the best dog I've ever had. He knows when I'm feeling down, and always comes over to me with a wagging tail and a smile , and does his best to cheer me up...and he never fails to bring a smile to my face. He loves our cats, but lets them know when they're in his way or in his favorite spot with a loud bark or a growl. He's scared off untold numbers of unwanted salesmen, and possibly felons who have tried to break into my house while I'm gone, only to be scared off by Odin's fierce growls and barks. He's my buddy, and I'm lucky to have him in my life.

I still remember my best dog, Cherokee. It's been 30 years since he died. But dogs find a place in your heart.

Dogs are definitely a man's [and a woman's] best friend.

Odin is a great name, so is Cherokee. I love/have loved all my dogs deeply.

My dog is named Spartacus, he was the first to stand up and come forward out of the litter. We generally refer to him as Mr Sparks.

*ahem* Cat lover here.

Cat's rule!

Scott, my kitty Sweetpea had mast cell cancer in her mouth. Doc gave her two months at best if I opted for surgery. I did. She lasted 14 months. She'd earned the right to live as long as she could.

Kudos to you for giving your best friend a chance.

Josephine, I currently have 5 cats in my household right now..three of my own, and two that came along with our housemate. They all love Odin.

Every felon deserves his ankle bit once in awhile. Every homeowner should have a dog with Odin's temperment.

I agree, Odin is a great name - Heimdall would be cool for a watchdog too.

miladysa - NO! My dog is Spartacus!

Sorry, but somebody had to say it ;-)

I'll bet that dog drinks beer, doesn't he ?

Miladysa, Jon, thanks. I never heard of a dog named Odin before, and it fits his sometimes majestic look. he looks pretty relaxed in these pics, but when he's outside, wind blowing his hair, with his "serious" look on his face, he looks every bit the Odin.

Jr, felons deserve worse than a bitten ankle. A man's home is his castle, and with my arsenal, I would definately get 'medieval' on any potential burglar...like the saying goes,'Beware of Owner".

Heff, I've never given Odin any beer, but I'm sure he would drink it if I did. He only gets dog food, except for the ocasional bit of food that gets dropped on the floor that he scarfs up, and a piece of turkey on Thanksgiving.
