Renfair Rogues

I just got back from the Texas Renaissance Festival. It's the biggest renfair in the state, and we've been attending every year for a long time. If you've never been to a renfair, it's a lot of fun. Besides all the people and performers in costume, there's shops, and booths that sell everything from swords and armor to candles and bath salts, games, jousting, and lots and lots of food and drink. In fact, even if I had absolutely no interest in medievil things, I'd still go for the food(and drink). Turkey legs, potatoes, fish and chips, kettle corn, empanadas, chocolate covered strawberries, and fried alligator on a stick are but a few of the treats available...then there's beer, wine, sangria, mead, and non-alcoholic beverages such as sodas and water available to wash it all down with.

We usually go in costume. Typically I wear chainmail and carry a broadsword( it's the barbarian in me), but this year we went on Pirate Weekend, so we dressed accordingly. Pictured above are the Black Pirates- my wife Kim, myself, and my friend Nicole. I think we make a dashing crew, if I do say so myself.

If you've never attended a renfair, I suggest you check one out if there's one in your area...it's a lot of fun.

Lana and I generally try to go to the renfair here and make it most years. I really enjoy them. Great pic of your crew of scallywags.

Now that grad school is winding down, I hope to get out more and go to more festivals and fairs.

I want to see some joustiing!

I don't go to renfairs, but I do dress like that quite often, lol.

You all looked great! I love the faires. Our crew dresses accordingly as well, some more than others, but we all enjoy the drinking and songs at the bar.

We love the local Renn Faire, too. Ours has a professional insulter--we never miss his no-kids show. He's hysterical! Although I have medieval garb, DAMN that stuff's uncomfortable! I may give it a whirl this year, though. Lace up only once we get there & unlace as soon as we leave!

Charles, thanks!

Josephine, I'm glad you'll have more time for such things. All work and no play, etc,etc...

Heff, I look for any excuse to wear black leather pants that I can.

VL, thank you! I don't usually partake in singing, but I do enjoy the drinking part. :)

Lana, I've seen insulters here, too. And yes, the garb isn't all that comfortable. My only hitch is the wide belt I'm wearing in the pic...it's OK for standing, but sitting and bending over to pick up stuff is uncomfortable. The ladies had it worse, with their corsets...they look spectacular, but are very uncomfortable, I'm told. They were very glad to be in regular clothes at the end of the day!

Great costumes! We used to go to the Renaissance fair when we lived in Virginia, but eventually I got tired of seeing the same things and hearing the same songs every year. (With a year in-between, you'd think the musical groups would have plenty of time to prepare new repertoire.) The one thing I never got tired of was the mead. Perhaps my favorite alcoholic beverage.

Shauna, thank you!

I know what you mean about it being the same every year. We stopped going to the shows and whatnot because of that very reason. Also, we used to go for the whole weekend, but we only stayed one day this year for the same reason.

Yes, I do love mead myself. :)
